Odisha: College girl dies under mysterious circumstances; body cremated without informing police

Bhubaneswar: A college girl died under mysterious circumstances in Balipatna area on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar city.

Though the cause of death was yet to be ascertained, the family members of the deceased cremated her body without informing the police.

According to reports, the deceased, a resident of Marthapur panchayat under Balipatna police limits, was a student of Plus 3 first year at a local college. She died mysteriously on Saturday morning.

However, the family members performed the last rites of the deceased hurriedly at the village crematorium without informing the police about her death. It is suspected that the family did so to destroy evidence of her death.

The speculation is rife that the college girl was in love with a youth from her village for the past few years. But her family was against that relationship. Objecting to love, they had been harassing her both physically and mentally on different occasions.

A few days ago, the girl accompanied by her lover had visited Bhubaneswar without informing her family. A relative of her family spotted the couple together on the way. After she returned the home, she was allegedly assaulted by her family members.

Last weekend, her family claimed that the girl died by suicide and cremated the body at the crematorium on the Kushabhadra Riverbank in presence of a few villagers.

This action by family without informing the police has raised suspicion among villagers. As no complaint has been lodged by anyone in this matter, the police have not registered any case.
