Patnagarh: Incensed students of Jawaharlal College in Patnagarh of Bolangir district today gheraoed the office of Sub-Collector as no action has been taken yet over ex-gratia to the next of keen of a girl student of the educational institution who died nearly a week ago after being run over by a mini truck.
Irate students locked the college main gate and then proceeded towards the Sub-Collector’s office.
“We were stopped on the way and were not allowed to take out the rally saying that it was illegal. Some officials even threatened us of legal action,” some students who participated in the rally said.
Patnagarh Sub-Collector Bijayananda Sethy received a fresh memorandum from the college students. “We have discussed the demands of the students with our department higher-ups. A few of their demands have been met and the rest will be addressed in due course of time,” the official assured.
The Plus-III girl student Smita Subhadarshini Pradhan died on September 2 in a fatal road mishap as a speeding mini truck (registration number OR-03 F-1131) hit her leading to her untimely death.
The next day, a rally was taken out by the students in protest and over a four-point charter of demands including speed-breakers on the roads in front of every college in the district. The local administration was handed over a memorandum in this regard but to no avail, some agitators expressed.
