Odisha comedy artist Papu Pom Pom, aide released from Jharpada Jail

Odisha comedy artist Tattwa Prakash Satpathy alias Papu Pom Pom, who is accused of sexually exploiting a minor girl on the pretext of giving her a break in movies, was released from Jharpada Special Jail here this evening.

Papu’s aide Pradipta Swain alias Gitu was also released from jail along with the comedy artist.

A huge crowd waited in front of the jail’s main gate to have a glimpse of the comedy star of Ollywood who had come out of jail after spending close to a month and half in judicial custody.

However, the waiting crowd and lensmen were disappointed as the comedy star was whisked away by his friends through the jail’s back gate.

The duo was granted conditional bail by the Orissa High Court earlier in the day.

The High Court allowed Papu and Pradipta to go on bail against furnishing of two sureties and a bail bond of Rs 20,000 each.

The court has asked both to cooperate in the investigation process and not to influence witnesses in the case.

Notably, the Twin City Commissionerate Police had arrested Papu and his aide Pradipta on June 30 from an apartment in Puri and produced them before the residential court of the Khordha District and Sessions Judge.

The Rangeela Toka-fame actor has been charged under sections 354(A), 506, 509 of the IPC and sections 8, 12 and 17 of the POCSO Act.
