Bhubaneswar: The construction of a concrete bridge connecting the mainland with Dhabaleswar shrine, located on an island inside Mahanadi river in Cuttack district of Odisha, has reached its last phase.

Rural Development department Principal Secretary Sanjay Kumar Singh recently visited the site and took stock of the construction work.

“The construction work for the bridge project will be completed soon. The bridge will boost communication to Dhabaleswar temple, a popular Shaivite shrine in Odisha,” said an official of the Rural Development department.

The state government has spent Rs 22.28 crore for construction of the concrete bridge to Dhabaleswar shrine. The 276-metre long and 6.2-metre wide bridge project was taken up under the Biju Setu Yojana of the state government, added the official.

“The devotees were facing a lot of inconveniences due to the absence of a concrete bridge to the shrine. The new bridge will solve all these problems,” said the official.

Notably, the state government had constructed a suspension bridge connecting the mainland with the temple some years ago.

The suspension bridge was closed for people in November last year to facilitate repairing work.

A temporary road connecting the shrine with the rest of the world was washed away a few days ago.

The temporary road was washed away due to rise in water level in Mahanadi river, sources said.
