Odisha Cong leader Naba Das puts speculation to rest, not to quit party

Jharsuguda: Putting all speculations to rest, senior Congress leader and Jharsuguda legislator Naba Kishore Das today cleared the air on joining Biju Janata Dal (BJD).

The prominent leader from Western Odisha stressed that he is not quitting Congress, as speculated in regional media.

“It is being rumoured that I am quitting Congress to join BJD. I have been associated with the Congress since my student days. I am inspired by the principles and ideologies of Congress party. I have been appointed working president of Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC). I am discharging my duties with utmost sincerity and will continue to do so,” the Jharsuguda MLA said in a release.

Das further said, “There is no question of quitting Congress. Those who are spreading rumours about me should refrain from it.”

Worth mentioning, the speculation was to some extent fanned by Das’ statement during a meeting with party workers at Raghunathpalli under Kolabira block in Jharsuguda district where he asked partymen whether they would support him if he joined any other political party. The clipping of the same was run by various regional channels in the state.

The recent resignations of senior BJP leaders Dilip Ray and Bijoy Mohapatra and the duo possibly joining BJD gave fodder to the rumour mills to speculate about Naba Das’ next political move.
