Odisha Cong to hold ‘Sankirtan’ in front of all Jagannath temples on Nov 9; know why

Bhubaneswar: The Congress party in Odisha will adopt a novel way to press for the reopening of all four gates of the Jagannath temple in Puri town.

The party has announced to hold Sankirtan in front of all Jagannath temples across the state on November 9 seeking reopening of all four gates of the 12th century shrine in Puri for devotees, sources said.

The Congress workers will hold Sankirtan in front of Jagannath temples in all blocks, sub-divisions and NACs in the state from 9 am to 12 noon on November 9 seeking reopening of the four gates of Puri Jagannath temple (Srimandir) for devotees at the earliest, said Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) president Sarat Pattanayak today.

The party had taken out a rally in Puri town on October 16 to press for the reopening of Jagannath temple gates and audit of Ratna Bhandar (temple treasury).

The Congress activists had submitted a memorandum in this regard to the chief administrator of Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA).

The party had asked the state government to take appropriate steps in this regard by October 28.

“The state government has failed to fulfill the two demands by October 28. So, the Congress party has decided to intensify its agitation,” Pattanayak said.
