Addressing a press conference at the Congress Bhawan here today, spokesperson of the OPCC Sarat Rout said the Congress suspected it to be a case of murder since the deceased Surendra Routray from Binjharpur was a political worker of the BJD and was an accused in a molestation case.

Accusing the state government of shielding BJD MLAs and leaders involved in criminal activities, Rout said circumstantial evidence suggests that Surendra was murdered for unknown reasons, which need to be investigated by CBI.

Rout said Congress apprehends the case will make no headway if it’s investigated by the police, which is controlled by Naveen Patnaik who heads the Home department.

The Congress leader cited the case of the death of a youth at the official residence of BJD MLA Arun Sahu, which is yet to make any headway, to justify its contention for a CBI probe into the death of Surendra.
