Sambalpur: A day after Congress changed its MP candidate for Sambalpur Lok Sabha seat in Odisha, Dulal Chandra Pradhan, who was dropped from the list, quit the party with immediate effect.

Pradhan, who served the Congress for last 33 years at state and district level, resigned from all posts and primary membership of the Congress party after being replaced with Nagendra Pradhan.

The ex-candidate tendered his resignation letter to AICC President Mallikarjun Kharge citing that he can never compromise on the future of Sambalpur.

"The collapse of a man's character stems from the compromise corner, I can never compromise on Sambalpur's future and the agenda for the welfare of Sambalpur," Pradhan wrote in his resignation letter, expressing his resentment over the AICC's decision for replacement of the candidate for Sambalpur Lok Sabha Constituency in Odisha.

The AICC on Sunday announced its candidates for 2 Lok Sabha seats and 8 Assembly segments in Odisha by withdrawing the names of three shortlisted candidates. The party named Nagendra Pradhan in place of Dulal Chandra Pradhan for Sambalpur parliament constituency, Pramod Kumar Hembram in place of Badal Hembram for Baripada Assembly Constituency and Baijayantimala Mohanty in place of Manoj Kumar Pradhan for Khandapada Assembly Constituency.

The elections to Assembly and Lok Sabha will be held simultaneously in Odisha in 4 phases starting from May 13 to June 1.
