Odisha Congress leader Raj Kishore Behera quits party

Bhubaneswar: In a huge blow to struggling Congress in Odisha, senior leader Raj Kishore Behera quit the party ahead of bye-election for Tirtol Assembly seat in Jagatsinghpur district.

Behera resigned from the primary membership of Odisha Congress, he informed it in a press meet today.

The leader tendered his resignation to Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) president Niranjan Patnaik.

The speculations are rife that Behera may join Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and contest the bi-poll as its candidate.

Behera had fought the elections between the years 2009 and 2014 as the Congress candidate from Tirtol Assembly Constituency. He was placed second in 2014 Assembly polls with 53,505 votes.
