Odisha Congress’ Malkangiri bandh enters second day

Odisha Sun Times Bureau
Malkangiri, May 11:

Normal life was badly hit as Odisha Congress’ Malkangiri bandh over water and electricity supply issues today entered the second day.

Water strike malkangiri

Even though the district Collector held a meeting with the agitators, no outcome was reached.

Quite like yesterday, the Congress supporters were seen picketing across various places of Malkangiri to enforce the bandh. Hundreds of women were seen carrying earthen pots over their head in a rally to the Collector’s office.

Communication and transport services were partly hit in the town because of the demonstrations. Even though there have been no reports of violence so far, security measures have been beefed up to avoid any untoward incident.

It may be noted here that Congress supporters led by former Nabarangpur MP Pradip Majhi yesterday started an indefinite Malkangiri bandh protesting against water and electricity supply issues in the district. The agitators had cut off the water supply to the residence of the Collector to pressurize the administration to fulfil their demands.
