Nabarangpur: A consumer court has slapped a penalty of Rs 5,000 each on Nabarangpur tehsildar and a record keeper working under the former official for unusual delay in providing certified copies to an applicant in this district. The court also ordered them to provide the copies immediately.

In case the order is not carried out immediately, the tehsildar and record keeper shall compensate a further delay by paying interest at the rate of 12 per cent in addition, the court insisted.

According to a source, the applicant named M Parameswar from Dasaharapada locality in Nabarangpur town had previously applied for the certified copies of the mutation case (No-356/2005) order sheet and revenue Inspector (RI) report thereof on January 30, 2023.

Despite running to the office times and again due to the urgency of need, Parameswar was not provided with the certified copies. After nearly 43 days, the applicant resorted to the court seeking redressal on March 17, 2023. The judgment was given for two separate cases of similar nature.

The court decreed in favour of Parameswar and another applicant on December 29, last year.
