Odisha continues to reel under intense heat wave

Bhubaneswar: Odisha continued to reel under intense heat wave conditions with mercury hovering above 40 degree Celsius at 11 places today.

Sonepur became the hottest place in the state today with recording maximum day temperature of 44.8 degree Celsius.

Angul recorded 42.7 degree Celsius followed by Jharsuguda (44), Sambalpur (44.7), Sundergarh (40), Hirakud (43.6), Talcher (44.3), Balangir (43.7) and Bhawanipatna (43).

The coastal Odisha, however, witnessed a marginal fall in the maximum day temperature. Chandbali recorded 39.7 degree Celsius, Gopalpur (32), Puri (33.8), Balasore (35.1) and Paradip (32.6).

The capital city Bhubaneswar recorded 38.2 degree Celsius and Cuttack witnessed a maximum temperature of 37.8 degree Celsius respectively.

Meanwhile, the local meteorological department predicted light rain, thunderstorm and lightning will occur at one or two places in Sundergarh, Keonjhar, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack Koraput, Malkangiri, Rayagada, Ganjam, Gajapati, Kandhamal, Kalahandi and Sambalpur tomorrow.

Dry weather is likely to prevail in the rest of the districts of Odisha, the Met office said.
