Odisha cop run over by truck, dies

Balangir: In a tragic incident, a speeding truck ran over a police personnel killing him on the spot here in the district this morning.

The deceased identified as Mrutyunjay Kuanr was posted as the constable at Belgaon outpost under Saintala police limits.

The incident occurred at around 4.30 am near Gandhi Nagar area on NH 26 in Balangir district.

According to reports, Mrutyunjay, 45, was rammed by an unidentified speeding truck coming from Balangir to Sambalpur near Gandhi Nagar while he was walking on the road. He died on the spot. The truck fled following the mishap.

After receiving information, police reached the spot and took the body to Balangir district headquarters hospital for autopsy. The efforts are on to nab the truck driver.

Reports said that Mrutyunjay, a resident of Satyanarayanpada in the district, was earlier posted at Balangir traffic police. Recently, he was transferred to Belgaon outpost.
