The men in khakhi had a tough time dealing with the villagers when they reached the village this morning.

Scores of villagers, including women, gheraoed the cops and an altercation ensued which turned violent within no time.

The incensed villagers attacked the police team for reaching the spot late for inquiry into the alleged murder of a woman yesterday. The villagers claimed that they had filed an FIR with the local police hours after the incident. However, the police did not respond to them.

“The police came to the village at 9 am today. We had gone to police at 3 am to file a complaint about the murder. The body was still hanging from the roof. But, the police did not act promptly,” a villager alleged.

The villagers reportedly did not allow the cops to take the body for post-mortem. As the situation deteriorated, the superintendent of police intervened into the matter to pacify the situation.

Meanwhile, two platoons of police have been deployed in the village owing to the palpable tension.

As per reports, the deceased identified as Sushama Nag was found hanging from the ceiling with her legs touching the ground. The villagers suspected that the woman was murdered.

Sushama had married to Tanu Nag of the village a year ago. After the incident, the husband and the in-laws of the deceased are absconding, reports said.
