Bhubaneswar: The Ghasipura police in Odisha today claimed to have solved the mystery surrounding the murder of taxi driver Bhagaban Bairiganjan on June 24.

The police have arrested two persons in connection with the crime. The accused have been identified as Abhishek Routray of Anandapur in Keonjhar and Abinash Swain of Niali area in Cuttack district. Routray and Swain are relative brothers, police said.

“We have collected information regarding the involvement of a woman in the murder case. The woman has absconded since the incident. Steps are being taken to arrest her,” said a police officer.

According to police, Bairiganjan, a resident of Kanas area in Puri district, was working as a taxi driver by staying in Cuttack city for last few years.

Routray, Swain and the woman had booked Bairiganjan’s Maruti Swift Dzire taxi bearing no. OD 02AA 1962 for a trip to Jajpur Road from College Square in Cuttack on June 24.

The trio had killed Bairiganjan over a dispute regarding the taxi fare and dumped his body near NH-20 at Darakhala under Ghasipura police limits in Keonjhar district, police said.

Bairiganjan’s family members had lodged a missing complaint with Malgodown police in Cuttack after they failed to contact him over phone.

Bairiganjan’s decomposed body was found at Darakhala on June 28. His taxi was found abandoned on a river embankment in Niali area of Cuttack district the next day, sources added.

Ghasipura police had registered a murder case as per the complaint lodged by Bairiganjan’s family.

“We have interrogated the two accused and recreated the crime scene. We will produce them in a local court,” said the police officer.
