Odisha cops grill male friend of girl found hanging in hotel room

Bhubaneswar: Two days after a girl found hanging under mysterious circumstances in a hotel in Odisha capital here, the police today questioned her male friend in connection with the incident.

“We have recoded the boy’s statement under Section 161 of the CrPC,” said an official of Laxmisagar Police.

The police have so far questioned at least 10 people in connection with the incident, he added.

The girl, identified as Subhalaxmi Sahu of Kuabagh Sahi in Bhadrak district, was found hanging in room no. 205 of a hotel near Laxmisagar Square on Cuttack-Puri road here on August 5.

The girl, a Plus-II student of Kamala Nehru Women’s Higher Secondary School here, had reportedly checked into the hotel at around 3.20 pm on August 4.

A day after the incident, the girl’s family had alleged that someone might have killed her and hanged her body in the hotel room to give it a suicide angle. They had suspected the involvement of some employees of the hotel in the incident.
