Odisha cops nab arms smuggling racket kingpin from Bihar; 3 guns seized

Bhubaneswar: The Commissionerate Police in Odisha’s Cuttack city claimed to have arrested the kingpin of an interstate arms smuggling racket from Bihar.

A special team of the Commissionerate Police with cooperation from the Special Task Force (STF) in Bihar arrested accused Golden Singh (34) from the northern state, said Cuttack Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Kanwar Vishal Singh today.

The police seized two guns and a mobile phone from the accused. Singh was in touch with several criminals from Cuttack, Khurda, Jagatsinghpur and Jharsuguda districts in Odisha and he was supplying firearms to them, added the DCP.

After interrogating Singh, the special team of the Commissionerate Police nabbed Wasim Khan (25), a member of the interstate arms smuggling racket, from Mangalabagh area in Cuttack city. The police also seized a country made gun from Khan.

Preliminary investigation has revealed that Khan was procuring guns from Singh and supplying them to other criminals, police said.

Notably, the Jagatpur police in Cuttack had busted the interstate arms smuggling racket on March 11 and arrested three persons in this connection.

The police had seized four guns and 12 bullets from accused Prakash Behera, Pyari Mohan Das and Mihir Kumar Ray.

While investigating the case, the police came to know that the trio was procuring illegal firearms from Menger area in Bihar.

A special team of the Commissionerate Police led by ACP Arun Swain and Sub-Inspector Sunil Yadav went to Bihar and nabbed the kingpin of the arms smuggling racket.
