Odisha cops probing hubby’s role in tele actor Nikita’s death

Cuttack: The Commissionerate police began probe to crack the mysterious death of popular Odia television actor Nikita following an FIR by the deceased’s father against her husband Lipan.

According to prima facie, Nikita’s husband Lipan had gone with her to the roof of her house following a heated argument. Her father alleged that she was pushed by her husband on the roof, said Cuttack DCP Akhilesvar Singh.

“We are investigating the role of the husband behind the death of Nikita. He has been detained and is being interrogated in the incident following the allegation. The scientific team visited the spot where the body of the actress laid after she had fallen off the roof. Action will be taken based on the fact and evidence,” he told media.

Notably, the well-known tele actress Lakshmipriya Behera alias Nikita died at a private hospital while undergoing treatment on Jan 5.

She was admitted to the Aswini Hospital following sustaining a head injury on Jan 4 night.

The father of the deceased termed it a ‘murder’ alleging his son-in-law of pushing her from the roof of the house.

“A mother of a four-month-old child can never commit suicide. Her husband pushed her from the roof following a heated argument between the couple. Five minutes after they went to the roof on Jan 4 night, we heard a loud scream and when we rushed to the roof found her lying on the ground,” said Nikita’s father.

“I seek justice to Nikita’s four-month-old son and action as per the law against the culprit involved in the murder,” he said.

According to reports, Nikita had been staying at her father’s house since her delivery following some disturbance with her in-laws and husband. She was allegedly tortured physically and mentally.

“Nikita had tied the knot with Lipan in November 2016. She was driven out of her in-laws’ house in June 2017. The couple was staying in Bhubaneswar following some issues with Nikita’s in-laws. Everything was going smoothly between the couple till five months of their wedding. The situation worsened as they had been fighting over Nikita’s decline of income,” Nikita’s father said.

However, she was never tortured by her in-laws and husband over dowry, he added.
