Odisha cops rescue abducted mines trader, 4 held

Jajpur: Odisha police today rescued a businessman from Jajpur who was reportedly abducted from Puri yesterday.

According to reports, Sribas Jena – who was into mines quarrying – was rescued from Rathia area under Jaraka police limits in the district. The four abductors had demanded a ransom of Rs 2 crore for his release.

Jena, a resident of Saroi village, was kidnapped in his car from the Holy town yesterday.

Acting on a tip-off, police swung into action and zeroed in on the abductors. Thus, the businessman was rescued with the arrest of the four accused.

Jena’s vehicle bearing registration number OD 33J 1576 was also recovered.

Meanwhile, police have detained these four persons for questioning.

Worth mentioning, Mines department had imposed a fine on Jena of Rs 58.62 crore for excess mining from a black granite quarry on Dankari hillock under Dharmasala tehsil.

Police are trying to ascertain the reason behind the incident.

The abducted miner is also associated with the ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) as party organiser.
