Odisha cops seal 7 properties for running brothels

Bhubaneswar, May 19:

Twin City Commissionerate Police today ordered for eviction of offenders from seven properties including two hotels, one guest house, two beauty parlours and two houses located in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack by way of attachment for using the premises as brothels.

The Commissionerate Police ordered closure by attachment of these premises for a period of one year under section 18 (1) of Immoral Traffic Prevention Act, 1956 from the date of its actual attachment.

The establishments that have been declared closed by the Commissionerate police are Hotel Nirmal Palace, Ashok Nagar; Hotel Janat Palace, Bapuji Nagar; Maitry Guest House, Maitri Vihar; Khusbu Beauty Parlour, Cuttack Road; One Star Beauty Parlour, Old Station Bazaar; a house at VSS Nagar (all in Bhubaneswar) and one house at Ranihat Chhak in Cuttack.

“Various hotels, houses and beauty parlours were raided in cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack under the Immoral Traffic Prevention Act. Large numbers of victims were rescued and accused persons arrested. In some cases, we have submitted charge sheets while some are under investigation. Commissionerate police have closed seven hotels/buildings/ house for a period of one year. These buildings have been sealed. The owners of these buildings cannot use these for a period of one year,” informed Twin City Police Commissioner Y B Khurania briefing reporters here today.
