Odisha couple ends life after death of 7-yr-old son

Jajpur: In a tragic incident, a married couple committed suicide here on Wednesday after death of their Thalassemia affected seven-year-old son.

The deceased identified as Pradip Jena and Pravati Jena of Udrang village under Binjharpur block of Jajpur district, took extreme step by consuming poison at their bedroom.

According to reports, the couple was under grief after they lost their only son on September 23. The mourning parents could not tolerate loss of their child and preferred to embrace death.

Raising doubt over the couple when they were not sighted at home in the evening, the family members with help of the villagers broke the bedroom door and rescued them. They rushed the couple to the District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) in Jajpur where the doctors declared them dead.

The reports said that Pradip and his wife had lost their mental stability following death of their son Om, who was suffering from blood disorder Thalassemia since birth.

Six months ago, the couple’s five year-old daughter had died of Thalassemia.

The locals said that Pradip and Pravati were completely broken and living in trauma as they lost their two children in six months.
