Vijay Singh, 43, and Manisha, 30, who run a maid service agency, were arrested from Nizammuddin area on Tuesday night. They belong to Sundergarh in Odisha.

Nishu of Vasant Kunj on Monday told police that she and her husband on Sunday went out of Delhi, leaving behind their maid who had been hired a day earlier.

“Nishu said when she returned home on Monday afternoon, she found the maid missing along with jewellery valued at more than Rs 80 lakh,” Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police Chinmoy Biswal said.

Police studied the maid’s call details and raided the couple’s hideout in Nizammuddin, arrested them and seized diamond and gold jewellery apart from two iPads, he said

The couple were running a placement agency since 2005 in Ashram in south Delhi.

“Vijay used to send his wife as maid to prospective victims’ houses in upscale areas in Delhi whereas other gang members committed thefts there when they got a chance,” Biswal said. (IANS)
