While the CBI probing the multi-thousand crore chit fund scam had sought to take the TMC lawmaker on a 12-day remand, the Court allowed the Central investigating agency to take Bandopadhyay on a six-day remand.

A four-time Lok Sabha member and a minister of state in the Manmohan Singh government, Bandyopadhyay was brought here last night after his arrest by the CBI at Kolkata.

Bandopadhyay is the second TMC MP to be arrested by the CBI after Tapas Paul for their alleged complicity in the Rose Valley chit fund scam.

Sources at the CBI revealed that the Central investigating agency intends to grill both Paul and Bandopadhyay making sit face to face in connection with their alleged involvement in the Rose Valley chit fund scam.

“Charges levelled against my client are baseless. We will move for his bail after the remand period is over,” said Rajib Mazumdar, Bandopadhyay’s counsel.

Allegedly, the Rose Valley Group had financed the TMC lawmaker's foreign trips and had gifted him with luxury cars in lieu of promoting its illegal business.
