Bhubaneswar, Apr 9:

The Sub Divisional Judicial Magistrate (SDJM) Court here has served a notice to former IG of Police Anadi Sahu to appear in person before it on May 3 in the matter pertaining to the criminal defamation suit filed against the latter by former Odisha DGP Sanjeev Marik.

“Sahu’s allegations against me are false and baseless. Since my complaint had strength, the court has admitted it for hearing and has served a notice to him,” said  Marik.

However, Sahu maintained that he is yet to get the notice from the court.

“I haven’t received the court’s notice. On its receipt, I will appear before the court and keep my stand in the court. Whatever I have said is true. I will place facts before the court,”  said Sahu in his reactions.

It may be recalled here that Marik had filed a criminal defamation suit for Rs 50 lakh against Sahu under IPC section – 500, 501 and 502 on the ground that Sahu’s allegations linking him to gangster Dhalasamanta brothers has damaged his reputation.

Section 500 of IPC deals with punishment for defamation, it states that whoever defames another shall be punished with simple imprisonment for a term which may extend to two years, or with fine, or with both.

Section 501 of IPC deals with printing or engraving matter known to be defamatory. It states that whoever prints or engraves any matter, knowing or having good reason to believe that such matter is defamatory of any person, shall be punished with simple imprisonment for a term which may extend to two years, or with fine, or with both.

Section 502 of IPC deals with sale of printed or engraved substance containing defamatory matter, it states that whoever sells or offers for sale any printed or engraved substance containing defamatory matter, knowing that it contains such matter, shall be punished with simple imprisonment for a term which may extend to two years, or with fine, or with both.

Notably, former IG of Police, Sahu on February 20, 2016, had alleged that Marik had close links with the notorious gangster Dhalasamanta brothers of Cuttack.

Later on February 23, the same year Sahu had further alleged that Marik had pocketed a whopping R 7crore from the gangster brothers as protection money and it was the latter’s then stenographer Rabindra Sethi who used to take care of his illegal transactions and invest them in various places.
