Odisha court awards 20 years RI to 3 for gang rape

Sundargarh: A local court in Sundargarh district awarded 20 years rigorous imprisonment (RI) to three convicts for gang raping a widow in a moving car eight years ago.

Hearing a gang rape case, the District & Sessions Judge Court in Sundargarh sentenced Sonu Soy, Indaru Kerketa and Prabin Barla to 20 years each in jail after convicting the trio under relevant sections of IPC.

According to reports, a widow from Rajgangpur area in 2015 was gang raped by three men in a moving car while she was returning to her home from a relative.

Reports said that the trio had offered the woman a lift in their car. They raped the widow one after one for four hours inside the car and threw her off the vehicle on roadside after the heinous crime.

The court heard the judgement on the basis of 21 witnesses and evidence.

Apart from 20 years RI, the gang rape convicts were slapped with Rs 5,000 fine each, failing which they will undergo further sentence of two months.
