Odisha court awards 4 yr RI to drug peddler

A court in Odisha’s Kendrapara district today sentenced a man to four years’ rigorous imprisonment for peddling of cannabis.

The Kendrapara district and sessions judge BK Rath today convicted one Narottam Sahu under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and sentenced him to four years of rigorous imprisonment apart from slapping a fine of Rs 25,000.

According to the prosecution, Sahu was arrested from Pattamundai on September 19, 2006 with 13.5 kilograms of cannabis worth over Rs 13 lakh, prosecution counsel Bhimsen Bhuyan had said during hearing.

The court awarded the verdict on the basis of circumstantial and material evidences.
