Rayagada, Dec 5:
A local court in Odisha’s Rayagada district today sentenced a foreign national to one-year in prison after convicting her on charges of kidnapping a child.
Rayagada Sub Divisional Judicial Magistrate’s (SDJM) Court sentenced Narges K Ashtari, an Iranian woman to one- year in jail and ordered payment of compensation of Rs 3 lakh to the child's family.
However, the court acquitted Jewel Raju Gupta, a co-accused in the case for lack of evidence.
It may be mentioned here that several differently-abled children used to reside at Prishan Foundation, Rayagada run by Narges.
One Peter Jilakar used to work there as a watchman. Peter’s son Aseem used to reside at the Foundation's premises.
In November 2014, Nargis along with other inmates of the Foundation had taken Aseem to the outskirts of Rayagada town for a picnic. While the picnickers were crossing the Nagavali river on a hanging bridge, Aseem fell into the river and was killed.
Following the incident, Aseem’s father-Peter had lodged a complaint with the police against Narges and Foundation's Secretary Jewel Raju Gupta.
