Odisha court awards two-year RI to former SEO for siphoning off CARE commodities

A special Vigilance court today awarded two-year jail term to a former Social Education Organiser (SEO) for selling food items provided to Mahila Samitis by forging documents.

According to sources, special Vigilance Court Judge Tara Prasad Rath sentenced former Social Education Organiser (SEO) Ananda Chandra Nayak to two-year rigorous imprisonment besides imposing a fine of Rs 50, 000 on each count amounting to Rs 2.5 lakh, failing which he will undergo 6 months RI for each default.

Nayak has been convicted under section 5(2) of Prevention of Corruption Act, 1947 and 409, 468, 471, 477-A of IPC.

Notably, Nayak was accused of misappropriation of CARE commodities like Bulgar Wheat, Salad oil, vegetable oil etc issued to feeding centres of Mahila Samitis by forging stock register and official documents.

He allegedly siphoned off funds to the tune of Rs 4.54 lakh in 1985-86. Later, the Vigilance Department charged him of misappropriating Rs 1.75 lakh by selling the food items in open market.

Nayak was working as SEO under Udala block in Mayurbhanj district.
