Special Designated court confiscated the property of former Executive Engineer (EE) of the Public Health Department (PHD) Sarat Kumar Mohapatra.

According to sources, the court confiscated the property worth Rs 7.46 lakh, a three-storey building in Berhampur and 1772 gram gold.

During his posting in Phulbani in 1990, Vigilance sleuths had raided Mohapatra’s residence and office premises. Following discovery of unaccounted assets, he was booked under Sections 13 (2) and 13(1) (e) of the Prevention of Corruption Act.

In April last year, Special Judge Bhubaneswar had sentenced Mohapatra to one-year rigorous imprisonment after he was convicted in a case of possessing assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.

Besides, the court had also imposed a penalty of Rs 21,600 on him.
