The court postponed the hearing in the matter as the Vigilance failed to produce the case diary in the matter, court sources said.

The Vigilance sleuths had on Sunday produced the tainted cop before the residential court of Special Vigilance Judge here in CDA area. The investigating officers have sought a four-day remand of the cop for questioning him over his alleged involvement in the Rs 88 lakh scam. The court had, however, postponed the hearing for Monday and Nayak was sent to Choudwar Circle Jail.

Nayak was brought to Bhubaneswar on Sunday on a four-day transit remand after his arrest in Ghaziabad on Saturday.

Earlier, he was produced before the Ghaziabad CJM court which allowed the cops to take him on a four-day transit remand.

Notably, five persons have already been arrested in connection with the scam. Earlier this month, Joydeep Nayak was suspended from the service for his alleged involvement in siphoning off Rs 88 lakh meant for the computer education of SC/ST students and self-help groups (SHGs).

The officer, said to be the prime accused in the case, was on deputation to Odisha till December 2015.

During his tenure as the IG of SC & ST Protection Cell, HRPC, the scam allegedly took place in connivance with the staff of the department and private players.

According to reports, Nayak had undergone a ligament surgery on his leg at the Safdarjung Hospital in New Delhi and was discharged from the hospital on June 22. Since then, he was on the run and had remained incommunicado.
