Odisha court rejects bail plea of godman Sura Baba

A local court here today rejected the bail petitions of self-styled godman Surendranath Mishra alias Sura Baba and his son Trilochan in connection with a land fraud case in Chatrapur in Odisha’s Ganjam district.

Chatrapur SDJM court rejected the bail application of the duo in connection with a land grab case in Chatrapur.

Hearing the case, Judge Niranjan Patra rejected the bail applications of the father-son duo behind bars since September last year.

Of the cases registered against Sura Baba, court has granted bail in a case pertaining to attack on Dalit youth and women.

It may be mentioned here that five cases against Sura Baba and his two sons were registered at the Balipatna police station following their arrest. Later, the cases were transferred to the Crime Branch police.

On the evening of August 30 last year, locals had barged in into the Trahi Achyuta ashram at Jhinti Sasan on the outskirts of Odisha capital following reports of land encroachment and women exploitation at the ashram premises.

Angry locals had gone on a rampage inside the ashram premises and set fire to properties which included vehicles.
