Odisha court serves notice to Kavita as ‘husband’ seeks her return

The Family Court here has served a notice to Kavita Mahakud, the woman claiming to be the daughter-in-law of Odisha legislator Sanatan Mahakud to appear before it on May 3 and record her statement.

Kavita was served notice by the court as one Debasis Mahakud, who claims to be her husband, has filed a case in the Family Court seeking to get back his wife and three children.

Debasis has claimed that he had married to Kavita in the year 2007 as per Hindu rituals. When there has been no divorce between them, how Kavita can remarry and accept another man as her husband, he wanted to know.

He has further alleged that when he tried to get back his wife and children, Kavita’s family members had threatened to kill him.

Notably, on March 1, the woman — identified as Kavita — claimed herself to be the wife of Pankaj Mahakud, the son of independent Champua MLA Sanatan Mahakud and filed a complaint of physical and mental harassment against the  MLA at the Mahila Police Station in Bhubaneswar.

Based on her complaint, the police had registered a case under Sections 498 A, 341, 294 and 34 of the IPC.
