Odisha: COVID-19 patient who had escaped from hospital caught

Nabarangpur: The COVID-19 patient, who had escaped from hospital in Nabarangpur district on July 5, was caught by police in wee hours today. The patient has again be shifted to the COVID hospital here for treatment.

The 55-year-old male patient had escaped by jumping the hospital wall in the morning of July 5 and gone to his house at Benara under Umarkote block.

As per sources, the patient was admitted to the COVID hospital on July 3 after reports of his swab sample came out positive.  Last evening, district Collector Ajit Kumar Mishra had informed about escaping of the patient. Superintendent of the COVID hospital Santosh Nag later lodged a missing  complaint at Nabarangpur police station.  At around 3 AM today, police conducted a raid and caught him while he was sleeping in his house.

“The patient was there in his room when our staff went for a vital checkup at around 5.50 AM. When the staff again went to give him breakfast, the patent was missing,” the FIR copy reads.

Worth mentioning,  a total of 85 persons from the district have so far tested positive for the virus.
