Odisha COVID-19 Update: 3 patients succumb; highest single-day spike of 304 fresh cases

Bhubaneswar: Three more COVID-19 patients died in Odisha and the highest single-day spike of 304 COVID-19 fresh cases were reported in last 24 hours, informed State Health & Family Welfare Department today.

Of three patients, two died of COVID-19 and another succumbed due to other complications.

“Regret to inform that a 76 year old Covid positive Male of Bargarh district passed away while under treatment in hospital. He was also suffering from diabetes for long,” said the H&FW Department.

Another COVID positive 49 year old lale patient of Ganjam district passed away in hospital. He was also a patient of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, the Department stated.

With this, the number of deceased cases rose to 14. Yesterday, the State reported 1 death due to COVID and another 1 other than COVID death. The COVID-19 death case was reported from Puri district. Another COVID-19 patient, who succumbed due to other ailment, was undergoing treatment in Nabarangpur district.

Earlier, 11 deaths were reported of which 6 had died in Ganjam district, 4 in Khordha district (3 in Bhubaneswar) and 1 in Cuttack district.

One more COVID-19 patient died of other ailments in Puri district. With this, the number of deceased cases other than COVID reaches 5 so far.

Meanwhile, Odisha reported the highest single-day spike of 304 COVID-19 cases from 21 districts in last 24 hours taking the total count to 5160. 

Of the new COVID cases, 272 cases have been detected from quarantine centres and 32 local contacts.

Besides, another 42 NDRF and Fire Service personnel returned from Cyclone AMPHAN duty in West Bengal tested positive for COVID-19 in Odisha.

With 304 fresh cases, the total number of active cases now stand at 1607. Meanwhile, 3534 patients have recovered in the State so far.
