Odisha: COVID protocols thrown to wind as hundreds gather to get jab

Malkangiri: COVID-19 guidelines  issued by the state Government were thrown to the wind as people in hundreds gathered at a vaccination centre in Kalimela block of Malkangiri district to get the jab today.

As  per information, 200 doses of Covishield had arrived at the Kalimela centre today while over a thousand beneficiaries assembled at the venue violating the social-distancing norm. Also, some people were seen jostling with each other to get the jab.  Later, police personnel rushed in and intervened to ensure smooth conduct of the drive with adherence to all safety norms.

If such chaos continues to prevail, the centre may soon turn into a super spreader venue for the virus.

Today, the district reported 62 positive cases taking the tally to 6179, including 587 active cases. So far, 277 COVID-19 patients in the district have succumbed to the virus.
