Odisha Crime Branch arrests nine persons for drug peddling

Bhubaneswar: In a crackdown against drug peddling racket, the Special Task Force (STF) of Odisha Crime Branch conducted a series of raids in different parts of the state and arrested nine persons involved in this regard in last five days.

In a drive against illegal trade of narcotic drugs, STF conducted a raid at Laxmibazar in Dhenkanal yesterday. They then arrested one Sandip Kumar Swain (32)  and seized 18 gms of brown sugar, one motorcycle and Rs 1.1 lakh from his possession. The accused was produced before the Dhenkanal District & Sessions Judge today.

Earlier on January 5, the STF conducted raid at Puri and arrested seven persons involved in trade of contraband items and seized 10 gms of brown sugar, two motorcycles and Rs 5,97,370 from them. On the same day during another raid in Jaleswar, STF seized 35 gms of brown sugar and Rs 1,47,280 cash and arrested the accused and sent him to judicial custody.

“We are further investigating in these cases and will nab other drug peddlers soon. Our drive against the brown sugar trade will continue throughout the state,” said a STF official.
