Odisha Crime Branch to probe Malkangiri Collector PA death case

Bhubaneswar: Hours after the family members of the deceased Deba Narayan Panda, Personal Assistant (PA) of Malkangiri Collector filed a complaint at the Malkangiri Sub-Divisional Judicial Magistrate Court (SDJM) against six cops alleging attempts being made to destroy evidence in the death case, Odisha DGP Abhay ordered a Crime Branch probe into the matter.

The DGP asked the Crime Branch to investigate the Malkangiri PS case no. 401 dated 13.11.2020 under sections 302/506/201/204/120B/34 of IPC.

Earlier in the day, Banaja Panda, wife of Deba Narayan Panda lodged a case at the SDJM court against Rishikesh Dnyandeo Khilari, Malkangiri SP; Ram Prasad Nag, Inspector-In-Charge, Malkangiri police station; Soumya Sekhar Tripathy, Ex-Inspector, Malkangiri and present IIC of Orkel police station; Constable Padhy and police personnel Kumar Munna and Ramakanta Pradhan. The case was lodged at the court under Sections 506, 204, 203, 202, 201, 196, 193, 192, 119, 115, 107, 120(B) and 34 of IPC.

Earlier a five-member SIT led by a deputy SP was probing the case as per the directive of the SDJM court.

The Odisha government transferred Malkangiri collector Manish Agrawal in November last year after a case was filed against him in connection with death of his personal assistant Deba Narayan.

On December 27, 2019, Deba Narayan had gone missing. His body was fished out from Satiguda dam a day later.

Deba Narayan’s wife alleged that her husband might have taken the extreme step as he was under severe work pressure.
