Odisha curtails summer vacation for universities, colleges

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government today curtailed the summer vacation at the Higher Education institutions including the State public Universities to 16 days. The decision has been taken by the Higher Education Department to compensate for the academic days lost on account of the Covid-19 related dislocation.

In a letter to the Vice Chancellors of State Public Universities, Government and Non-government degree colleges, and Government Teacher Education Institutions, Principal Secretary of the department, Saswat Mishra said the summer vacation at the higher educational institutions will be from June 1 to June 16, 2022.

“With such curtailment of summer vacation, the Higher Educational institutions are expected to complete all academic activities in time. If need be, extra classes should be held on holidays and working days by suitably extending teaching hours,” the letter mentioned.

It further stated teachers and other employees of the educational institutions will be entitled for additional proportionate earned leave in lieu of such curtailment of the summer vacation.

Earlier, the School and Mass Education Department had announced its decision to allow summer vacation at schools for a period of 11 days between June 6 and June 16.

The decision to cut short the summer vacation has been taken to cover the syllabus which cannot be completed due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the School and Mass Education Department added.
