Bhubaneswar: Cyber fraudsters allegedly duped the villagers of Badarampalli in Odisha’s Ganjam district of over Rs 1 crore through an online app.
The villagers had invested sums ranging from Rs 10,000 to Rs 1 lakh in the online app on the promise of high returns, sources said.
According to sources, Krushna Chandra Mahakud of Badarampalli under Rambha police limits had invested Rs 4,000 in the online app some days ago. Mahakud was reportedly getting Rs 800 as per day returns.
“The villagers got attracted towards the online app and started investing money in it. Around 90 per cent villagers of Badarampalli had invested money in the online app but they did not get any return,” said a source.
The villagers also could not contact the promoters of the online app despite repeated attempts in this regard.
“The promoters of the online app had promised to triple the amounts invested by the villagers in short time period. But, the villagers later realized that they have been duped by the promoters of the online app,” added the source.
