Odisha Cyclone Alert: Depression over Bay in 12 hrs, IMD issues wind warning

Bhubaneswar: The Low Pressure Area over Bay of Bengal is likely to intensify up to a cyclone and head towards Odisha coast, sources said.

The possible cyclonic storm is likely to cross the coast on September 26, sources added.

Till the filing of this report, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) was yet to issue any bulletin regarding the possible cyclone.

“The Low Pressure Area over East Central Bay of Bengal & neighbourhood now lies as a Well Marked Low Pressure Area over East Central & adjoining Northeast Bay of Bengal with the associated cyclonic circulation extending upto mid-tropospheric levels tilting southwestwards with height. It is very likely to concentrate into a Depression during next 12 hours. It is likely to move west northwestwards towards Odisha coast during next 48 hours,” the IMD said.

The agency has also issued wind warning in this connection.

* 24th Sept: Squally wind speed reaching 45-55 kmph gusting to 65 kmph likely over East Central and adjoining northeast Bay of Bengal and Andaman Sea.

* 25th Sept: Squally wind speed reaching 50-60 kmph gusting to 70 kmph very likely over Northwest and adjoining Westcentral Bay of Bengal and along and off Odisha, West Bengal and North Andhra Pradesh coasts.

* 26th Sept: Squally wind speed reaching 55-65 kmph gusting to 75 kmph very likely Northwest and adjoining Westcentral Bay of Bengal and along and off Odisha, West Bengal and North Andhra Pradesh coasts.

* 27th Sept: Squally wind speed reaching 45-55 kmph gusting to 65 kmph very likely Northwest Bay of Bengal and along and off Odisha & West Bengal coasts.

The fishermen are advised not to venture into east-central & adjoining northeast Bay of Bengal and Andaman Sea on 24th and 25th Sept. They are advised not to venture into northwest & adjoining westcentral Bay of Bengal and along & off Odisha, West Bengal & North Andhra Pradesh coasts from tonight till 27th Sept.
