Odisha: Cyclone formation on May 13? Here’s what models indicate

Bhubaneswar: A cyclonic storm is likely to form over Bay of Bengal on May 13 and head towards Odisha-West Bengal coast, as per a Global Forecast model of US.

As per the model, a cyclonic circulation is likely to form over Bay of Bengal around May 10. It is likely to intensity into a depression around May 12 and further into a cyclonic storm around May 13, the model predicted.

On the other hand, several other models have indicated that the system will be limited to a cyclonic circulation only.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) was yet to issue any forecast or bulletin in this regard.

Director of Centre of Environment and Climate (CEC) Dr Sarat Chandra Sahu said a cyclonic circulation is likely to form over south Bay of Bengal around May 10-11. However, it is not likely to intensify into a cyclonic storm. The strength of the possible cyclonic storm can be clearly ascertained in the next 2-3 days, he said.
