Odisha: Delhi-bound Rajdhani Express leaves bogies behind   

Cuttack:  A major mishap was averted after the engine of Bhubaneswar-New Delhi Rajdhani Express got detached and left the bogies behind on Kathjodi bridge here today.

The train, that departed the Bhubaneswar Railway Station at around 9.30 AM, was halted on the bridge for around an hour triggering panic among the passengers.

As per reports, 12 coaches i.e B/4 to B/11, pantry car, A/1, A/2, H/1 coaches was detached from the train at around 9.50 AM. However, all coaches were on the track and all passengers were are safe during the mishap.

Meanwhile, a high-level inquiry team has been formed by the Khurda Road DRM to probe the incident.

“The train is expected to be joined soon and checked thoroughly at Cuttack station. Senior officers from Bhubaneswar coach maintenance depot will soon reach the spot and the reason behind the mishap will be known on completion of the inquiry,” said an official before the train resumed.

In a statement, the ECoR said, “Initially media reports came regarding engine leaving the coaches. It is actually a case of separation of coaches. As it has occurred on a bridge, it is taking extra time to join the coaches. We are taking extra precautions and the matter is being taken very seriously.”

“An inquiry has been ordered by the DRM Khurda Road and the report will be submitted within 48 hours. Strict action will be taken in case any deficiencies found or anybody found responsible for any slackness,” the statement added.
