Sambalpur: Sambalpur DFO Vishwanath Nilamvar achieved a remarkable feat by reaching Umling La, which is World's Highest Motorable Pass, on a bicycle.
Covering a distance of 550 km on a bicycle, the IFS official reached Umling La Pass in Ladakh, at an altitude of 19,024 ft or 5798 mtre.
Vishwanath pedaled to Umling La Pass on July 14 and successfully reached there on July 22 despite adverse weather conditions.
According to reports, a group of 46 cyclists had started journey to Umling La Pass, which is higher than Everest Base camp. However, only 35 cyclists succeeded in the trip, organised by Youth Hostels Association of India.
Vishwanath is said to be the first IFS officer from Odisha to achieve the feat in Himalaya.
