Odisha DGP approves ASI training for selected 1,092 Constables, Havildars

Cuttack: Odisha DGP Abhay gave his approval to a process for selection of Constables, Lance Naiks, Havildars and CI Havildars for Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) training. Out of the selected candidates, 849 were from the unreserved category and 243 from Scheduled Tribe police personnel.

The selected candidates will undergo the ASI training programme for four months from February 15, 2021. After completion of the training, the police personnel will have to clear an exam. Those who clear the exam will undergo a practical training for two months at police stations.

Official sources said the police personnel who pass the exam and take part in practical training will be appointed as the ASI and delegated the power to investigate cases.

Police personnel who secured 40% in a written exam organized by the Police Department were short-listed for the training programme.

An official said the written exam was organized for SC and ST police personnel after seven years and for the unreserved category after a gap of 18 years.

The short-listing of the police personnel from Scheduled Caste group for the ASI training programme was held in the beginning of the year.
