Odisha DGP RP Sharma back at the helm

Cuttack: Odisha’s Director General of Police (DGP) RP Sharma joined office today, after returning from two-week long leave following his wife’s untimely death earlier this month.

In his absence, Bijay Kumar Sharma, Director General of Fire Services, Home Guards and Civil Defence, was appointed as the DGP-In-Charge as the State is witnessing the simultaneous Lok Sabha and Assembly elections. Sharma had been given the additional duty following the Election Commission’s approval.

Police sources said that Sharma today took a stock of the police preparedness for the third and fourth phase of polls scheduled to be held on April 23 and 29 respectively.

It may be recalled here that the DGP’s wife Tushar Sharma, had passed away while undergoing treatment for pneumonia and lung infection at Ganga Ram Hospital in Delhi on April 7.
