Odisha DGP Sanjeev Marik goes on leave

Odisha Sun Times Bureau
Bhubaneswar, May 14:

Director General of Police Sanjeev Marik on Wednesday went on a five-day leave citing personal reasons.

Sanjeev marik 1Marik told the media that he would prepare for the Law examination scheduled on May 26.

Sources however, have linked the sudden leave of Marik to his recent remarks against the Centre which has decided to stop assistance for modernisation of State Police from this year.

While his remarks against the Centre had drawn the ire of the state BJP leaders, three Union ministers had also come down heavily on him.

Chief minister Naveen Patnaik, after his arrival in the capital city from New Delhi on Tuesday, had told the media that the state government would review the statement of the DGP.

It may be mentioned that Marik, in a press briefing on April 30, had said stopping of funds for police modernisation will certainly hit the police force. He had urged the Centre to review its decision.

This leave was sanctioned around 10 days back and the leave was applied by Marik even earlier , around 15 days back . However the issue is just 2-3 days old , its just speculation and has no facts to be linked.
