Odisha: Dibyang elderly woman murdered on suspicion of black magic

Digapahandi: The police detained four persons on charges of burying a dibyang elderly woman after murdering her over witchcraft suspicion in Chhabanagada village under Digapahandi police limits in Ganjam district.

The dibyang woman, Saibani Mallick was missing since past one and a half months. After the Digapahandi Police launched an investigation on basis of a complaint filed by the woman’s relatives and detained the four persons, her body was exhumed today and sent to the MKCG Medical College and Hospital for post mortem.

As per reports, Saibani was claiming herself a priestess of the goddess and reportedly curing diseases of villagers with her miraculous power. But, some children and women died after falling ill during past few years. Villagers then sought the help of a sorcerer who told them a woman from the village had been practicing witchcraft.

Following this, the villagers suspected the dibyang elderly woman practicing black magic. According to the plan, some villagers murdered the woman and buried her body in the forest, said a police official, adding that during the course of investigation some youths revealed the sequence of events.

The police official further stated a manhunt has been launched to nab the other accused in the murder case.
