Odisha dissolves Trust Board of Lingaraj Temple

Bhubaneswar: Taking a strong initiative to expedite the proposed reform measures at the Lingaraj Temple, Odisha government formed an interim body by dissolving an age old Trust Board for smooth management of the centuries old shrine in Bhubaneswar.

The Interim Trust Board of Lingaraj Temple has been constituted by the Endowment Commissioner under Section-7 of the Orissa Hindu Religious Endowments Act.

As per the notification issued on Wednesday, the Interim Trust Board will be headed by Khordha Collector. The new body will be functioning for a period of one year.

Source said that the new Trust Board headed by Khordha Collector Sitanshu Kumar Rout comprises Additional District Collector, ACP Zone-II Bhubaneswar Urban Police district, Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC)’s Additional Commissioner, government pleader of Bhubaneswar court, representatives of three Nijogs (servitor communities) of Lingaraj Temple and an advocate as the members.

The move came following allegations of mismanagement by the Trust Board and infighting between the servitor communities over encroachment and selling of land of Lord Lingaraj were reported in media.
