Odisha districts to have Language Labs to help enrich tribal literature and culture: CM

Bhubaneswar: Language Labs will be set up in each district of Odisha to help enrich the tribal literature and culture in the State. This will also create ample opportunity for research on tribal languages, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik said today on the occasion of launching a dictionary in Santali.

The dictionary has been published in Santali-Odia-English by the tribal language and culture institute. The CM also dedicated, at Naveen Niwas in Bhubaneswar, 21 additional textbooks of elementary education level in different tribal languages of Odisha including Soura, Kui, Kuvi, Gondi and Munda, the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) said.

The Chief Minister thanked Santali linguists, researchers and the tribal institute for their contributions to preparing the dictionary and particularly the eminent linguist Chaitanya Prasad Majhi.

Notably, efforts are on by the SC & ST Department to prepare additional textbooks of elementary education level in 11 different tribal languages and dictionaries apart from Santali. The Government is on the move to introduce certificate courses in different tribal languages in the days ahead.
