Odisha doctor found hanging at in-laws place

Bhubaneswar: A doctor allegedly died by suicide at his in-laws’ house in Ganjam district of Odisha.

The deceased has been identified as Dr Surendra Nath Rath. He was posted as the Joint Director of Gajapati District Headquarters Hospital in Paralakhemundi. He was an alumnus of MKCG Medical College in Berhampur.

According to reports, Dr. Rath was found hanging from a ceiling fan inside a room of his in-laws’ house under Gosaninuagaon police limits in Berhampur today.

The reason behind his suicide is yet to be ascertained.

Police recovered the body and sent it to the MKCG Medical College and Hospital for post-mortem.

“We were informed about the unnatural death of Dr. Surendra Nath Rath in Berhampur. Preliminary investigation by police suggested that the death of the doctor was due to hanging. The final cause of death will be ascertained after autopsy, informed Professor Dr. Sudeepa Das of the MKCG College and Hospital.

“It is a case of utter misfortune to the family. It is sheer misfortune that such sad and tragic incident has happened,” she added.
